Ecology of Home
Supported by National Geographic and Waitt Foundation.
A young woman leaves her home island behind to become the first person in her family with a Master’s degree. After reuniting with her family, she must work to combine traditional and Western knowledge to empower her community to manage their ocean resources. The tension between traditional and modern does not just stay in her professional life, as Kateteke must now navigate her role as a woman on an island with defined gender roles, while remaining true to herself and her mission.
