An Organization for Tropical Studies course in Costa Rica. Taught by award-winning science journalists, Radiolab producers, and Days Edge documentary film makers.
Everything you knew about daddy longlegs is wrong
Part One of the course included writing a story about a scientist at La Selva Biological Field Station in Costa Rica. This story is about Ignacio Escalante and his long legged lab assistants. Thanks to Hillary Rosner and Michael Kodas for their support.
La Selva Family Robinson
In part two of the course, we split into groups and created short podcasts about researchers at the station. This story is about a young family who comes to live in the rainforest. Thanks to Molly Webster and Pat Walters from Radiolab and Pop Up Magazine.
Return of the rainforest
For the last part of the course, our groups created short videos. I was involved in some directing, editing, animation and on screen work. This story features Noemi, a young Peruvian researcher, on a quest to discover the value of secondary growth forest. Thanks to Morgan Heim and Neil Losin from Day's Edge.
